  • Giraffe Centre, Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Karen Blixen Museum

    Full Day Tour

    Starts from Nairobi at 0900hrs

    Drive towards the Nairobi National Park to the Giraffe Centre which opens its doors to visitors from 9.30 am. The Centre avails you the opportunity to see and hand feed the famous endangered species of Rothschild Giraffe and her family. Later proceed to Sheldricks Baby Elephant Orphanage which is open 1 hr daily. Our visit will be between 11am and 12 noon every day, and see the elephants being fed and playing. In addition, there is a keeper who will give a talk about the elephants, where they came from, how they are getting on, and how some of the previous orphans are progressing. You can get really close to the elephants. The orphanage also takes in rhinos and so if you are lucky you will get the chance to see a young rhino. Afterwards, continue to the Karen Blixen Museum (Out of Africa Movie was short here) and this was for many years her home.

Includes a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, former home of the authoress of the book Out of Africa, where we immerse ourselves in the past life of the settlers at the beginning of the century, and can take a walk in the beautiful gardens with a spectacular view of the Ngong Hills.  We then visit the Giraffe Centre, a sanctuary for the rare and beautiful Rothschild Giraffe. We can take photographs and even feed the giraffes and the resident warthogs. We end the tour by visiting the bead and pottery factory at Kazuri and shopping for souvenirs at Utamaduni.

    Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive to the floor of the Great Rift Valley (Gregory rift valley) stopping to marvel at the views of the escarpment along the way at View point. Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park for mid-morning game drive. Proceed for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge/Lion Hill Lodge. Lake Nakuru National Park is world famous for its population of greater and lesser flamingo which at times number over a million. The park covers 200 sq kilometers offering a cross section of woodlands, wetlands, rocky cliffs and the acacia scrub. The lake itself is a shallow alkaline lake, supporting several species of fish. It’s more than 400 species of birds have made it an ornithologists paradise. There is plenty of game including - buffalos, leopards, lions, giraffe are easily seen, besides impala, dik dik and also the black and white rhino. Drive back to Nairobi with a possibility of visiting Lake Naivasha En route to Nairobi if time permits, to arrive in the Evening.
